WFWP Austria met with Dr. Maria Hengstberger, founder of ‘Aktion Regen’. Dr, Hengstberger is now in the process to develop material to educate about the reality and dangers of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). She is very creative as well as scientific in this regard and is developing different ‘tools’ to bring her message across, among them also several short movies and the two rag dolls seen in the photo below. A very inspiring meeting!
About the organisation: “AKTION REGEN is an Austrian association for development cooperation, which for the most part is financed by donors – mainly in the form of „Raindrops“- long-term donations. The emphasis of our activity lies in the education work on sexual health and family planning in developing countries. The word "rain" in our name symbolizes the enduring support through understandable knowledge transfer. Just as water has to reach the roots of a plant to make it sprout, so the knowledge about one’s own body, sexuality, the possibility of birth control and family planning, and HIV/AIDS prevention needs to reach the people, to give them the chance to lead a self-determined life.” http://www.aktionregen.at/index.php/en/
