Networking with local organizations with the expected effect of future collaboration.

WFWP-Sweden could host an event at a the local library in Malmö on the 23d of

November. Together with the Somali organization Wadajir” (which means together) we

could with short notice gather around 40 people including some men under the theme

“Women showing the way to Peace , Justice and Social transformation” We enjoyed

mingling as we shared homemade sandwiches and samosa.

Newly appointed “Global Women Peace Ambassador” Asha Omar Geesdir was invited

as the main speaker. Asha lived in Malmö 10 years ago and is a well-known and

respected person in the Somali community in Sweden. She came to Malmö for the

event before returning back to Somalia. She shared about her life journey and brought

up points she learned from living in Sweden that she would like to see implemented in

Somalia.

Lynnda Houston acted as MC as well as a translator. The languages used were

Swedish, English and Somali language. Britta Houston gave a presentation about

WFWP and showed some highlights from the conference in Poland. Claudine talked

about some of the WFWP activities in Congo DRC as well as in South Africa that she

had been involved in prior to coming to Sweden. Dorcas Dadzie from Ghana talked

about her organization that she started at her workplace called“Give to life”. Abubakar

Mohamud, a young man from Göteborg talked about his work with the Elman

Peacecenter in Somalia . There were a few other organizations as well present. A young

lady shared her poem about women as peacemakers behind the scene. Asha moved

everyone when she started singing a traditional Somali song that everyone joined in on.

After a successful event we decided to continue our collaboration together and to keep

a strong connection with Asha.
