WFWP Italy, Bring Back Our Girls, March in Rome

WFWP Italy supported the Nigerian community in this march to ask for the immediate release of the abducted Nigerian girls. It was organised by the Nigerian Community Association, Ass. Interculturale Griot and Consulta Femminile Regione Lazio, and took place in the centre of Rome on 21 June. The theme was 'BRING BACK OUR GIRLS – Free to be – free to choose': "WFWP Italy endorsed and took part in the initiative, inviting all their friends and acquaintances to sign the online petition promoted by the “Consulta Femminile Regione Lazio” for the immediate release of the Nigerian school girls. At 5.30 p.m. the authorized march started from Piazza del Campidoglio; it was a peaceful demonstration accompanied by slogans, songs, colorful costumes which captivated all the passersby. WFWP marched with its flag and a poster reading BRING BACK OUR GIRLS. In Piazza (Square) Farnese, a number of speakers among the attending authorities, including the Nigerian Ambassador, gave their remarks from the podium prepared for the occasion; several messages were also read, including a message from the President of the Italian Republic. Endorsement by women involved in politics was transversal. The organizers thanked the Italian women for their heart-felt participation in the event, which proved the existence of true solidarity and concern among all women in the world, regardless of their nationality or creed.
