Women’s Federation for World Peace Ireland recently hosted a screening of the award-winning documentary The Day Iceland Stood Still, drawing a strong and highly engaged audience with an equal balance of women and men.
The film, along with the lively post-screening discussion it inspired, highlighted both the significant advances in women’s rights achieved in Iceland and the personal sacrifices many women have made—often setting aside careers and ambitions to raise families. Participants reflected on how these sacrifices contributed to broader social progress, while also underscoring the often-unseen costs borne by women in the pursuit of change.
A clear consensus emerged that lasting equality, genuine respect, and sustainable peace require active male allyship. Meaningful, systemic change does not occur in isolation but through collaborative efforts between men and women.
The event reaffirmed Women’s Federation for World Peace Ireland’s commitment to fostering informed dialogue and collective action toward gender equality, while encouraging continued partnership across genders to build inclusive and respectful communities.
