I represented Women’s Federation for World Peace Ireland at CSW70 in New York City this March, attending alongside Dr Jennifer Okeke, Chair of the National Women’s Council of Ireland. While there, we participated in an advocacy training organised by the Women’s Federation for World Peace International UN Office, returning inspired, connected, and ready to act.

The training focused on translating ideas into practical plans, including the use of simple results chains, relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 measures, and effective methods for gathering strong evidence through surveys, interviews, and personal stories. The sessions were practical, informative, and energising.

A standout moment was the Bridge of Peace Luncheon, where Anna Eleanor Fierst spoke. The Bridge of Peace is an initiative that brings former adversaries or differing schools of thought together to model reconciliation; witnessing individuals stand side by side in this way is a powerful demonstration that peace and mutual understanding are possible. Fierst’s remarks echoed the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, particularly her role in shaping the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, linking that legacy to our local work to strengthen civic voice and women’s leadership.

During the event, we connected with university staff, community leaders, and activists interested in collaboration. With an academic partner now on board, we plan to grow membership, host monthly meetups, and launch a national speech contest—translating this fresh inspiration into measurable action and documented stories of change.
