A report by WFWP Slovakia, sent in by Mirka Alexy, WFWP Slovakia Vice-President, about their recent event on such an important issue:'We have organized this timely event on 27th March 2014, with the final participation of 42 guests. It was very successful and positive, new relationships were initiated, new small hopes sparkled and impulses for lot of hard work for the future resonated in our minds… How did all of this start?Already at the end of last year we, as representatives and members of WFWP in Slovakia, felt very strongly that we would like to do something so that we can protect the young people more, that we provide them with rich and full information about sexuality, which would include not only it´s physical aspects, but also the psychological, emotional ones and would also show all the values that are involved in sexuality. All these things are very well incorporated in Free Teens programme that is being taught in our country for more than 10 years on let’s say smaller scale… Then we gradually created an event, which we wish to develop into a longer lasting project.We sent more than 100 invitations to directors of all secondary schools in Bratislava city and we also placed around 15 posters at some relevant faculties of universities, we also invited our friends, the parents of teenagers.3 very good lecturers were speaking at the beginning of event.Marcela Magusinova and Richard Veres are lecturers of Free Teens programme for 15, or respectively 6 years. They have plenty of experience of talking to teenagers on the topic of sexuality and relationships, lots of ways to explain that sexual relationship is far more than a game/play… Then we had Marcela Veresova , renowned academic educator, working at a Pedagogical Faculty and specialising in psychology. She explained the reasons “why” young people go into premature sexual activities, what are the possible consequences of it and what we, as adults, parents, teachers can do to support them.The response of the participants was very positive and excited. All the present teachers want the “Free Teens” to be presented in the schools where they teach, they appreciated our works very much. It confirmed our understanding and feeling that the topic of sexuality and relationships of teenagers and for teenagers is an urgent, sensitive and cardinal topic not only for us. This obliges us to pay attention to this topic not only once, but in a long-term plan.'
