Transnational Organized Crime



On the 20th of October, WFWP-Austria organized a side event at the United Nations’ Headquarters in Vienna under the topic of “Preventing Crime through Encouraging a Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle for Young People – Best Practices”. The event was organized in cooperation with IAYSP-Austria.


The event was part of the 11th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (COP UNTOC) hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

Vice-President of IAYSP Europe and Middle East, Jeong-Hye Hassinen delivered a passionate speech promoting core values of Responsibility, Integrity, Service and Empathy in creating a healthy lifestyle and sustainable societies. Jeong-Hye showed how the RISE values are applied in the Peace Designer Training and how both the participants and society in general benefit from the resulting projects.


The Event was opened by His Excellency Mr Solano Ortiz, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Mission of Costa Rica to Austria and the International Organizations. In his speech he very clearly talked about the family as the most important “breeding place”, as it is there where everyone grows up!


Other speakers were DI Michaela Glatzl, from Chamber of Agriculture and Managing Director of the Association of Austrian Women Farmers. She spoke about her project: “Green Care”, where especially women are encouraged to use the environment of the farm for various projects, like kindergarten, nursing home and day- care centres, and other.

Ms Kirsty Rancier, from UNODC talked about the youth programmes that have recently been developed: “Youth Empowerment Accellerator (YEA!)” Program!


Dr Maria Riehl , Director of WFWPUN Vienna office, and Mrs. Carolyn Handshin, Director of all WFWPI UN offices throughout the world, opened and closed the Side Event with a warm heart, showing appreciation for each one of the speakers!
