To mark the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, UPF Hungary organised an online event co-hosted by the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Hungary, exploring the theme “The Obstacles to Creating Peace in the 21st Century.” Three speakers shared their perspectives on the challenges of building a more peaceful world.

The first speaker, Gabriella Pap Dancsó, WFWP leader in Szeged, examined peace from a women’s perspective, highlighting issues such as domestic violence, workplace harassment, the gender pay gap, and the often-invisible domestic and emotional labour carried by women. She emphasised the importance of self-awareness, personal development, empathy, and recognising the equal value of women and men from an early age. She also introduced WFWP’s founders and the organisation’s mission.

Dr Péter Mészáros, university lecturer and UPF VIP, addressed environmental protection, while Erzsébet Tomka, UPF Hungary leader, spoke about the fundamental principles of peacebuilding.

The event brought together three guests and ten members, providing an opportunity for meaningful reflection and dialogue on the personal, social, and environmental dimensions of peace.

Through initiatives like this, WFWP Hungary and UPF continue to encourage awareness, mutual understanding, and cooperation towards a more peaceful world.
