The Nordic Women Mediators NWM, was formed in 2015 rooted in Resolution 1325 (UNSCR) and its objective to adress the underrepresentation of women in mediation and peacebuilding . NWM is a forum where national networks from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden meet once a year discussing issues related to Women, Peace and Security and the implementation of UNSCR 1325.
This year was the 10 year anniversary of the founding of the network and also 25 years after UNSCR 1325. The meeting was held in Copenhagen on the 24th of November and two representatives from WFWP-Sweden and one representative from WFWP_Denmark could attend.
The afternoon was divided into 3 segments . The first included keynoteadresses from several prominant womenleaders such as Margot Wallström, the former Swedish Minister of foreign affairs and a co-founder of the NWM and from Oleksandra Matviichuk the Ukranian human rights lawyer who received the Nobel Peace Price in 2022.
The second segment was called -Getting to the HOW-and consisted of a panel with representatives from conflict affected countries : Afghanistan, Sudan, Israel and Syria and adressed human rights violations in warsituations.
The last segment was called -New Approaches-Better results-was an expertpanel from NWM and turned out to be a very engaging discussion concerning the limitations in the current framework of society and how to bring humanity and empathy into the construction of a better world for all.
