140 people came together at the Al Mahdi Institute in Birmingham for Interfaith Harmony Week, to emphasise the importance of coming together for peace at this very challenging time. We were people from all faiths, cultures, ethnic and racial backgrounds, and from all levels of society. Following readings by women from 7 different faith traditions, we invited the Lord Mayor, Police Crime Commissioner and representatives from the Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Hindu faiths to share their thoughts. The Mayor and Crime Commissioner in particular emphasised the positive contribution which people of faith, individually and collectively, are making towards peace and stability in our Birmingham / Midlands region of the UK. The official meeting concluded with us singing ‘Make Me a Channel of Your Peace’, after which we shared food and friendship with one another in the dining room. There was such a nice atmosphere, a sense of the divine, and no-one seemed to want to leave! Each person made a really valuable contribution with their presence, making the whole experience wonderful for everyone.
From the Mayor, Cllr Shahin Ashraf MBE.
Dear Patricia, It was an honour for me to have received the invitation. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon with you and everyone that I met. It was a wonderful afternoon. Thank you for your kindness and for hosting me and for the kindness of others, too. My sincere gratitude to you, your husband, and for all the work for peace which WFWP and UPF are doing.
From Kaleem Hussain (Muslim speaker)
Dear Patricia & David, Thank you for the kind invitation to speak at the multi-faith event. It was lovely to listen to many insightful talks, prayers and songs focusing on the virtues of our shared humanity and what bind communities together. In peace, love and gratitude.
