The WFWP India Chairperson leads One Million Tree of Peace Campaign in Kashmir

We are happy to re-post this report that we received from WFWP India, by Ms. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury: Srinagar, J&K, The Women’s Federation for World Peace India, June 5, 2014: The Women’s Federation of World Peace (WFWP) India Chairperson Ms. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury planted a Tree of Peace in Kashmir valley this morning on the occasion of World Environment Day. “For me, it is planting Peace,” said Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury in a telephonic interview. The WFWP is an international United Nations ECOSOC organization spread over 200 countries. The Founder and the International Chair of the WFWP is Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, based in Korea and the US. The organization promotes peace in women’s life and family. Under this drive, five chinar trees shall be planted by five Kashmiri families, who have endorsed the family Peace initiative of the the WFWP. Saplings of chinar were planted along with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan Director Ms. Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman and President of Women’s Political Watch Ms. Veena Nayyar at Hazratbal Dargah area opening to Dar-Es-Salam (Abode of Peace). The solemn event was endorsed by local population, community workers and other WFWP members Ms. Fatima, Ms. Farhana, Ms. Sadaf and Mr. Wajahat from Kashmir. The WFWP India Chairperson Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, who is known for her remarkable peace initiatives, conceived and spearheaded the campaign called “One Million Tree of Peace Campaign.” Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury is also the Chairperson of India chapter of the International Congress of Women. Under this initiative, the WFWP volunteers are hoping to plant trees in conflict affected villages in the borders of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, China and Pakistan. The initiative in Kashmir is a symbolic presentation of peace as an object of priority. “We hope to take this forward in years to come as part of our advocacy for safety, security, protection and justice,” said the One Million Tree of Peace Campaign coordinator Tarun Monga. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury will be camping in Kashmir for two days and visit women, children and orphanages. Under this initiative, it is expected that people participation will lead to a peaceful and happy world. Said Sreerupa, “Plant a tree of love in your heart; promise to raise a tree of life; and gift a tree of peace to your family, community, society, the nation and the world.”
