WFWP Italy, Bergamo - Fundraising event for the women of Congo

On Saturday10th of January WFWP Bergamo organized an afternoon gathering with refreshments of

homemade cakes and sweets offered by members. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to send

to Congo in order to buy sewing machines for the women victims of war and violence. This was to

support the project of the Association M 2R Congo. Their goal is to provide a formation course in

sewing and to donate 80 women a sewing machine so that they can become independent and support

their children.

Gianinna Figus the local President introduced the WFWP and the goals of the project . This was

followed by a famous Italian song offered by a participant in which all joined in creating a joyful

atmosphere.

A lottery was held with small surprise gifts in gratitude to the guests and their generous donations.

Each sewing machine cost $80 and we were able to send enough money to buy 14 machines.

The event was attended by 40 people and the local newspaper published an article about the event. As

a result of this a famous shop in Bergamo offered the possibility to have some sewing machines free

of charge to send to Congo . Unfortunately we were unable to accept because of the cost to send them.
